Has It Really Been That Long???

Back in the "olden days” we rarely had an ultrasound to learn the gender of our yet-to-be-born baby.  We actually waited until our little one arrived to know for sure what God had given us.  We were off to a good start with boys.  We already had three of those, so we were pretty confident we’d be doing a lot of blue at our house again.  There was no reason to think otherwise.

This had been a special pregnancy.  After three caesareans, we had gone through a lot to attempt a natural delivery.  The physician we’d worked with during the last two pregnancies wasn’t comfortable with our trying to avoid a repeat c-section, so we’d even changed doctors at 36 weeks, choosing to travel about an hour to the hospital instead of the 15-minute trip we were used to.

It was a Friday night when the contractions signaled it was time to head out.  We had all the excitement that goes with a first delivery… because, in many ways, it would be.  The doctor and nurses were very encouraging, and all went well.  Just before 3:00  on Saturday morning our baby was born.

When the doctor announced, “It’s a girl!” I remember responding, “Look again!  We don’t do girls at our house!”  It was in those moments that I watched my husband change before my eyes.  He was now the father of a beautiful daughter…  and she was already lovingly wrapping him around her little finger.

No longer the little girl that grew up in our home…

but now very much a beautiful young woman.

She blesses her family and those who know her as she willingly serves and uses her many talents to bless those around her

(and she still has a very special place in her daddy’s heart).

Lord, continue to grow this precious daughter into the woman You desire her to be.  May she serve faithfully as she patiently waits on Your direction for her life.  Thank you for blessing our family by putting her into our home 18 years ago.

Sweet post for a sweet young lady. Keep her close... or send her to an apprenticeship of sorts in our home. :)
Hope your birthday was wonderful, Auntie Hannah!
