Resurrection Sunday 2009

Stormy weather prevailed on Friday afternoon.  While my oldest daughter and I were out shopping, we experienced golf ball-sized hail.  It was rather exciting!  We were able to get home safely with our fabric purchase and settled in for a quiet evening.

We had a family celebration on Saturday night with four generations.  My husband’s parents and our second son and his family were able to join us.  Turkey, ham, dressing, sweet potato casserole, corn casserole, homemade garlic mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, dinner rolls…  many of our favorites!  Strawberry shortcake made with fresh strawberries over angel food cake and topped with whipped cream… a great ending to a yummy meal.   Our three youngest daughters spent the afternoon helping me with meal preparation while the guys were outside working on a  tree that had fallen in our yard in the storm from the previous day.  (My oldest daughter spent the day working on a project.)

Sunday morning brought preparations for church.  Attendance was down with many families traveling and visiting with their extended families.  We had a blessed time in worship together, though, followed by another yummy holiday meal.

One of the highlights of the day for me was the finished project my daughter had been working on.  She made beautiful spring dresses for her sisters!  They’re made from the Girls Regency Dress Pattern from Sense & Sensibility Patterns.

We were able to rest a bit when we got home.  Then we watched an old movie called The Robe.  Our final activity of the day involved reviewing the true story of Christ’s death and resurrection with the use of our Resurrection Eggs.  Our youngest is still learning what it all means.  It was so encouraging to hear her siblings share different parts of the story with her.  The time of review made it more meaningful for all of us.

All in all, it was a blessed weekend, surrounded by friends and family.

Hallelujah!  He is risen!  He is risen indeed!
